TLC Ready To 'Change People's Lives' With New Music

LAS VEGAS — It's been seven years since TLC's Left Eye died in a car crash, but the two remaining members, T-Boz and Chilli, insist they aren't ready to quit. They also say they have no plans to replace Left Eye — and that fans will soon hear new music from the duo.

"Well, first I have to say, when people say, 'coming back together,' we've always been together. We're always TLC. We're not the former members of TLC," Chilli told MTV News at the second annual Justin Timberlake and Friends concert in Las Vegas. "This is TLC right here, no new people in the group. It's just T-Boz and Chilli."

With that cleared up, T-Boz shared that she and Chilli have plans to hit the studio and get working on some new music to be released sometime soon. The exact details, however, were still up in the air. "We're talking about it right now," she said. "Well, we haven't started. We're talking. ... We're getting it together, and then it will most likely happen."

Chilli felt there is no time like the present to get their empowering, socially conscious, R&B-infused pop back on the airwaves. "It's needed, I think, with the lyrics today," she said. "You just listen to the radio, and it's like the beats are hot, but the lyrics aren't there. I think that inspires us to go back in and come up with songs that continue to change people's lives for the better."

  T-BOZ 'STRONGER THAN YOU KNOW'

THE PEOPLE MAGAZINE (PUBLISHED THIS WEEK) FEATURES A 2 1/2 PAGE INTERVIEW (WITH NEW PICTURES) ON PAGE 107, TIONNE OPENED UP ABOUT HER BATTLE WITH A BRAIN TUMOR, THE ARTICLE READS

Looking at her now, you’d never know that Tionne Watkins, better known as T-Boz of the 90’s girl group TLC, has secretly battled a brain tumor for nearly three years. She hid her struggle (which took away her ability to speak for months) on The Celebrity Apprentice in March. “I didn’t want pity – I was there to help sick children,” says Watkins, who also has sickle-cell disease, an often-fatal blood disorder marked by chronic fatigue and organ failure. “I was told I wouldn’t live past 30 or have children.” Watkins, who lives with daughter Chase, 8, in Atlanta, shares her store for the first time with People’s “Jessica Herndon.

Because of my sickle-cell disease, I have a high tolerance for pain. By 2006, I’d have headaches for six years. I thought it was stress. But when my vision went blurry, I got an MRI.

Turns out, she had a grapefruit-size acoustic neuroma (which are noncancerous) on her vestibular nerve, which affected her balance, hearing, sight and facial movement.

I thought, “God, why now?” I told the doctor my goal was not to die – I had to be there for Chase.

Watkins consulted many doctors who refused to remove the tumor, citing sickle-cell-related complications, like lung or heart failure. The alternatives (like burning her brain stem) were grim. Keith L. Black, M.D., and Rick A. Friedman, M.D., of Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, thought surgery was possible if they worked with a blood specialist.

Dr Black asked me in what order did I want to save these three things: my hearing, balance and facial movement. I said save my facial control first and hearing second, because you wouldn’t be able to tell if I can’t hear well just from looking at me. At least I’d have hearing on one side. Then save my balance last. But I worried about it. What if I couldn’t sing or dance? Music is my heart.

During the November 7th, 2006, surgery, Dr. Black cut behind her ear and peeled the tumor from the brain stem. The surgery took about seven hours. (I had written my will – I might not have made it.) When I woke awoke, I could hear and looked normal. But then I had a sickle-cell crisis. With the pain meds and steroids, they said I kept flopping and hitting my head. They gave me IV fluids in order to stop it.

After I was released, more than a week later, the ride to my L.A. apartment was like vertigo to the 10th power. I had to sit up in bed for two months. They propped me up, but I kept sliding down, which made my head swell. It was so painful. At one point, fluid poured out my nose. I was readmitted. I couldn’t walk or really see. I heard screeching noises. They said “We may have to cut you open again” I was like, “No!” I praid, and the fluid stopped, so I got out.

When I was eating pancakes four days later, they fell out my mouth. I couldn’t feel my cheek. I couldn’t blink, walk or form words. When I saw my face was distorted -- I cried. Two weeks later Chase, who stayed with my aunt in Atlanta, and I were on iChat and she was like, “Mom, you look pretty.” I don’t know what she saw, but it made me feel better. In rehabd, I had to relearn how to walk and how to say my ABCs. I can relate to deaf people: You think you’re saying “where” but your mouth goes “whaa”. When Chase visited me, she’d hold my cheeks and kiss me. She didn’t treat me like I looked funny.

Though self-conscious about her face, Watkins’s speech improved within a year, and she performed with TLC at the June 2008 BET Awards.

I knew I wasn’t ready. I couldn’t talk straight or keep my balance, and my lungs were weak. Fans asked if I had a stroke. It was not a good night.

Now, with dance therapy, Watkins hasn’t fully regained her balance, but she feels ready to perform. TLC will play at Justin Timberlake’s charity concert in Las Vegas Oct. 17.

If you say “sick kids,” you always get me. People like Justin have shown me love. He’s excited. So am I.

To this day, the headaches are unbelievable. My facial nerves jump, and I want my smile back. But if that’s all? No problemo. I fight to be here daily because I want to see Chase get married and have kids. I want to party and laugh. I’m doing a solo album, and I want to tour. I have t o see if I can do it. I’m still here. It will take way more to s top me.

TIONNE ALSO SPOKE OPENLY ON HER FACEBOOK PAGE, SAYING

I had to keep it a secret because I couldn't let Chase hear about her Mommy on the news, etc.. that way, She never knew what happened. Just that Mommy had a cut on her head to fix something. She still doesn't fully understand what really took place. She just knew I didn't feel well. Plus I didn't know what my outcome would be, I had to keep it quiet. It was a 2 year healing process.

THIS HAS BEEN TALKED ABOUT TODAY ON TV, NEWS STANDS, AND INTERNET BLOGS AROUND THE WORLD. THIS TRULY SHOWS THE WORLD JUST HOW STRONG OUR GIRL IS. TIONNE WILL SING OPENLY ABOUT THIS SITUATION ON HER NEW SONG 'STRONGER THAN YOU KNOW'

-- SPECIAL THANKS TO DERRICK FOR TYPING THE ARTICLE!

"With these projects, we're continuing to evolve, building on our core storytelling expertise to delve deeper into personalities and issues that connect with millions of our viewers."

The "Pepa" series follows Denton as she begins her to search for love after living a celibate life for years.   Recap of the Celebrity Apprentice Episode 3
Poster: (Vathan Mon Mar 16, 2009 5:19 am

As always, T-Boz wrote her thoughts on this weeks 'CA' episode!

Ok I feel like this episode SUCKED! First of all even though this episode was only an hour instead of two like the other 2 episodes. Man they could have shown better footage. I thought the purpose of having celebs on the show working hard for charity was to actually SHOW the hard work along with the typical drama. I feel both sides the men and women were slighted. We ALL worked our asses off. We hand picked and pulled all those dresses, helped pull all those heavy racks in the store, hung all those dresses, did inventory, priced every dress (1,000 + dresses), walked out on the street handing out flyers, flyers that we had made and had to go and pick up to help bring people in while some of the girls were walking around drinking champagne trying to be cute in the dresses, so ALL of us didn't work hard because some were down right lazy. Not to mention I had to work in the dressing room as well and try an fit women who were sometimes too big for the dress in 2 sizes smaller not being realistic. I would just say suck it in and I would pull hard and snap the buttons anyway. If that's her goal to be in that dress by her wedding date then I support it as well. But it was just hard as hell because this is not the month nor the date, but we're pretending it was and the dress wasn't trying to hear it. I could have just went without all the blisters it caused on my hands and fingers. Now I don't have a problem working hard and I always will. But I just think it would have been better to see us slave in a way you've never seen before besides showing the same ol' spoiled celeb who has everything ready and prepared for them. Now honestly when Dennis went out to bring in more people to the show, he was at the bar drinking. So unfair. Then he had allergies boy stoppppppp. I have worked under way worse circumstances hell I didn't stop with the sinus infection and high grade fever on the show and other celebs who were sick didn't as well. But you know some men can't handle being sick and wear what I like to call "PUNK PANTIES" suck it up, shut up, and show up. But I don't know I think NBC needs to be careful because sometimes it's hard enough to get some people to watch a show like that as is, so at least be creative a little. Me personally I would have loved to see Dennis Rodman do some hard labor or any of us for that matter. So here's to wasted footage and a lot of hard work and blisters, aching back, sore feet , and no sleep for nothing. Until week 4 please NBC don't let wk 5 be a bore.

Chilli to be part of the Female Success Factor in Atlanta
Poster: (Vathan Tue Mar 10, 2009 9:15 am

Singer and mom-preneur, Chilli considers setting a solid example for her 10-year-old son, Tron — and other young people — as part of her destiny. “What I stand for and what TLC stood for was to encourage self-respect and empower others to believe in themselves,” she says. To that end, Chilli spent the summer traveling throughout the country speaking to young girls and mentoring artist hopefuls.

The founder of bagsbychilli.com also gives praise and thanks to the Creator. “For me when you try to live in God’s will, he shows favor, and favor is real. I give him all the praise. God has given me the ability to work hard and to know that regardless of the circumstances, hard work never goes unanswered,” she states.

  T-Boz Solo Thoughts
Poster: ChrisCyberTLC Thu Mar 05, 2009 10:33 pm

So any of you TLC fans who know me at all know that I don't play stan. When Lisa released Supernova, I said it was a whack album. What happened? Lisa came to CyberTLC, and called ME whack. Ha!

Anyway, the point is - I don't love everything TLC does just because I'm a fan. I love TLC for TLC, but some stuff they've put out can be garbage. I didn't like Lisa's album too much. Chilli's solo singles have been only average to me.

Now lets get to the point.

If you're like me, you've heard "Someday" and you're thinking "Jeez, is this the sound she's going for on her solo album." I had to ask Tionne that myself because I was concerned. Not that "Someday" isn't a good song...but I was hoping for something ELSE from the long awaited T-Boz solo album.

I wanted to know what the heck to expect from her solo album, so guess what.....T-Boz played me a few tracks on the phone. I can't give you song titles or lyrics because I promiseddddddd.....butttttttt - so HOT. The beats are banging. Club bangers. The vocal arrangement is hot. There's a track that was given to her by Rodney Jerkins that's similar to "Feedback" by Janet, which Rodney gave directly to T-Boz and not Janet.....and it's hotter than Feedback!!! She has many different flavors.....it's not all hip-hop, it's not all R&B, it's not all pop.......it's a shake 'n bake of it all.

I came into it hoping for the best, but bracing for a letdown like Lisa's solo album. There's so much more I wish I could say, but I just can't give it away!

Know this - I'm a picky ass music fan, a picky TLC fan.....and Tionne's solo album is exactly what you've been waiting for as a TLC and T-Boz fan. Be prepared.

J

What they didn't show on The Apprentice
Poster: (Vathan Wed Mar 04, 2009 4:23 am

"Hi everyone. If you caught the first episode of the Celebrity Apprentice, let me know what you honestly think. I didn't talk much that episode because I had the worst sinus infection and working out on the streets with a 102 temp. But what they didn't show was how I sold $14,000 dollars worth of cup cakes. I was the 3rd person to sale the most cupcakes. LA Reid (Def JAM) came down a bought a $5,000 cupcake and Steve Rifkind also bought 1 cupcake for $5,000 dollars. And the other $4,000 came from me hustling on the streets getting people to buy them. But if you don't keep up drama they don't show you as much and they want to try and make it exciting tv. But if you do what you were supposed to like I did and work hard that's called boring tv. Those who want to see more of the (more) popular Celebs should blog on the NBC Celebrity Apprentice blog site and vote. Tell them too show T-boz more. Ha Ha! As you can all see Annie Duke is an ass, yes I said it. Anyway I do start talking more around the 3rd challenge. Thank you for your support and I'll give you an update on the behind the scenes as to what really happened every MON after the show airs". T-Boz

Just call me T - New T-Boz interview.
Poster: (Vathan Wed Feb 25, 2009 11:53 am

Donald Trump probably knows TLC as the cable network, not the biggest female group of the 1990s.

In fact, the host of “Celebrity Apprentice” (season two debuting Sunday on NBC at 9 p.m.) had trouble pronouncing Atlanta’s own Tionne “T Boz” Watkins’ first name. Watkins said he kept saying “T-own” instead of of the proper “T-on.” So after awhile, he just called her “T.”

Hip hop “is probably not part of his world,” she mused in a phone interview Tuesday.

But Watkins said she did not go out of her way to kiss his tuckus. Plus, “I didn’t Omarosa it,” she said, turning one of the most infamous “Apprentice” contestants of yore into a verb. Compared to the likes of Andrew “Dice” Clay and Dennis Rodman, “I made boring TV.”

Rather, she focused on making sure the Sickle Cell Foundation was front and center, not her ego. What makes her charity hit so close to home is she was born with Sickle Cell and has had to cope with the fatigue and a weak immune system all her life. See her video below:

“I don’t believe in arguing with strangers,” she said. “I argue with people I care about. I can’t get mad about a job I don’t do for a living.” At the same time, she said she won’t let anyone disrespect her and she will bite back.

Watkins had the most trouble with poker champ Annie Dukes. “She’s a cool person but she doesn’ t have people skills. It’s not what you say but how you say it. She’d say, “Get that!” instead of “Will you please get that?”

You won’t see much of T-Boz in the first episode Sunday. She said she had a sinus infection and a 102 degree fever through that first challenge and she hardly said anything. She got annoyed when Dukes in the first challenge called her out in front of Trump for supposedly not working hard enough, then acted all concerned off camera.

“I respect Donald Trump but I’m not going to make an [bleep] out of myself.”

In the boardroom, some contestants felt they had to tell Trump every little thing they did to prove their worth. She didn’t. “They’d overtalk, trying to sound intellectual, being loud and saying nothing,” she said. “Shut up! I’ve been on TV for 17 years. I don’t have to fight for camera time. If you want me to get the job done, I’ll do it. I was there to raise money.” (She said she did raise money for Sickle Cell research, which means at one point she won a challenge as project manager.)

The great thing for her is she didn’t have to live with the other celebrities such as “Surreal Life.” (”I’m not the roommate type!”) Rather, she got to go to a hotel at the end of each day and be with her daughter Chase and her mom. Problem: the shooting days were really long, sometimes 16 hours or more. They’d often wake up at 4 a.m. for makeup and hair and not get back to the hotel until after 9:30 p.m. “They kept you tired and hungry,” she said, a recipe for good TV because people are more apt to blow up.

Watkins said once her sinus infection was over, she didn’t get sick again on the show. But she says she often gets sick when the seasons change. She was became ill when on tour with TLC. She said she tries her best to take care of herself and takes lots of vitamins and prays a lot.

TLC hasn’t performed in three years but they are doing a show in Japan, where the group is ultra popular, for some crazy money. (Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes shows up on screen.) “Overseas is where the money’s at,” she said. “I have a kid. I’m not leaving Chase for a penny.”

As for “Celebrity Apprentice” itself, the show will be airing two-hour episodes instead of one. This indicates a bit how desperate NBC is this year. Plus, it clearly makes the cost of doing the show much more inviting.

Big thanks to CyberTLC board member Jesaar

  10 Years ago TODAY!
Poster: (Vathan Mon Feb 23, 2009 5:30 am

It’s hard to believe ten years ago to date TLC released the much awaited larger-than-life album “Fan Mail”. Once released, it debuted number one on the charts and before long it was announced that it went 6 times platinum, and went on to sell well over 11 million copies world wide. It was a classic TLC album and showed the world that they hadn’t broken up, and that they were back, better than ever. From that album they had two number one songs “No Scrubs” and “Unpretty”. No Scrubs was number one in 5 different countries, and stayed on the charts for well over 7 months.Throughout the Fan Mail promotion, they announced they would go on a world tour titled the “Fan Mail” tour. They went on to tour over 26 different cities, including the United States, and Canada. The majority of the dates were sold out and they had a PayPerView special of their tour, called TLC: Sold Out, which at the time became PayPerView's highest grossing televised special ever. The tour wrapped up in their hometown of Atlanta. Atlanta Mayor Bill Campbell gave the group a key to the city and declared January 29 "TLC Day." All in all, with Fan Mail the best selling TLC album since Crazy Sexy Cool, they were nominated for 7 Grammy awards (Winning two for Best R&B Album and Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal), 6 MTV Video Music Awards (winning one for Best Group Video for No Scrubs), One American Music Award for Favorite Band, Duo or Group - Soul/Rhythm & Blues, 3 Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards (Winning all 3 for Aretha Franklin Award [Entertainer of the Year], Best R&B/Soul Single - Group, Band or Duo for No Scrubs and Best R&B/Soul Album of the Year - Group, Band or Duo), and Two Soul Train Music Awards (also winning both for Best R&B/Soul Single - Group, Band or Duo for No Scrubs and Best R&B/Soul Album - Group, Band or Duo). They released 3 videos for the album, two of which were on heavy rotation on the music video channels, and threw our girls back into the game! This day marks history for us TLC fans, and still inspires many people in the industry today!

  T-Boz Co-Wrote Blaque's "THE STORM"
Poster: ChrisCyberTLC Fri Feb 20, 2009 10:34 pm

Just some random info on "The Storm" - the Blaque track that leaked last week. I was talking to T-Boz and come to find out, she actually wrote the hook for the track! How crazy!!!!! She said "I just wrote the hook but it inspired the whole song. My friends, some writers called THE OFFICE co-wrote the rest with me."

T-Boz also said that when she wrote the hook, it wasn't about Lisa at all. "I was just talking about a loved one that you would go thru anything with. But they thought it would be perfect for that. 'The Storm' is kinda of sad to me, but hey that's the mood I was in that day when I was writing."

Just thought you crazy TLC heads like myself would want to know!

1.
Q: who is she signed with?
A: I haven't signed with anyone yet. I'm not sure what choice to make as of yet.
So until then I am just recording and finishing the album, because I am still able to work
with the producers of my choice which is a blessing.

2.
Q:What happened to that track she promised us?
A: I am putting some tracks on my new site BOZ-BIZZ.com coming soon in March.
I didn't send anything because the songs weren't mixed.
Some still aren't but I will send one that has a ruff mix.

3.
Q:Will she be featured in other projects or collaborate with other artists
A: I do have a couple of rappers featured on my project.
But not any other singers as of right now.

4.
Q:What are your thoughts on the NOTORIOUS movie? Any plans for a TLC movie?
A: I liked the Notorious movie. I waited years to see it. Mark Pitts is a friend of mine.
It brought back a lot of memories for me. We all came up in the record business around the same time.
It made me very sad at the end though and reminded me of having to live out Lisa's death with the public.
But I think they did a great job. And yes a TLC movie has been talked about.
We are interested in doing so. So I can only hope that ours will be that good as well.

5.
Q:When can we expect your first single or your mixtape single to be released?
A:I never say when when a single is coming out unless I REALLY know the due date.
I don't have a date. ;-)

6.
Q:Do you feel that the movie ATL captured your original concept for this movie?
A: ATL came out good under the circumstances. I think T.I. did a great job.
It originally was different and changed a lot. But hey it took 11 years to get someone to make it.
So the answer would be no. But I still liked the outcome.

7.
Q:What is the theme of your upcoming solo record?
A: I haven't put the music in a box and labeled it pop, r&b, or anything like that.
I just want to make a good album with good songs. And for everyone who doesn't know I like lyrics.
That is very important to me.

8.
Q:Who is your favorite artist today?
A: I don't know if I have a favorite today. I am still an old school fan of Prince,
Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye etc. But I like Beyonce, Rhianna, Justin Timberlake,
Lil' Wayne, T.I., and Day 26 mostly for just certain singles.

9.
Q:What is your favorite song that's out to day?
A:The song that I work out to every other day at the gym is by Jamie Foxx f/ T-Pain "Blame It On"
I love that song right now. And I ride to my brothers tracks K.O the Trakaholik.
He's also a producer on my album. But not because he's my brother....Because he's good!

10.
Q: What are your thoughts about the new Bow Wow track that samples Baby Baby Baby?
(I think JD produced the track), did they have to come for approval?
A: I haven't heard the new BOW WOW track. But one person I know called and said that they didn't like it.
But either way I am honored that he used our song. You only have to ask the writers and producers of the song for permission to cover a song. So I didn't write on that one.

11.
Q:Are there any guest appearances on your album that might surprise us?
Whether it be producers, writers, or musicians etc....?
A: Well I'll just wait to answer that question because
I don't know which songs will make the album yet.

12.
Q:Have you recorded any music with Chilli for her solo or for your solo for that matter?
A: I have recorded a song with Chilli for her album.
And she said that she would sing on mine as well.
We just haven't got around to doing it yet.

13.
Q:Are you excited to be performing in Japan?
A: Yes I am excited about performing in Japan. I love the people.
They are some of the most loyal fans.

14.
Q:Has Chase shown any interests in music or in the entertainment industry?
A: My daughter wants to be a vet, she loves animals.
But yes she sings and dances all the time. She makes up her own routines and
she's on a dance team at her school as well.

15.
Q:Do you have any questions for the fans?
A: If you all could pick a song for me to sing. ..
What type of song would it be and why?

16.
Q:What does she think about Chris Brown being arrested on an alleged domestic felony against Rihanna?
A: I won't get into other peoples business.
I think they have enough of that going on anyway.
But I wish her the best.

17.
Q:How did it feel when TLC was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame?
A: It's always an honor to be chosen for an award or something
but to go down in history is truly amazing.

Thanks!
-Sincerely, Tionne

and big thanks to MY BOI T-Little (Reppin' Dat D-Town "Denver" Holla!)

According to sandrarose.com, Chilli is dating Jay-Z's ex-roomate, Larry Johnson. Apparently the two were spotted at the NBA Allstar afterparty at the Velvet Room last night. Hmmmmmmm!

Blaque Tribute song to Lisa Lopes
Poster: (Vathan Tue Feb 10, 2009 9:06 pm

http://www.mediafire.com/file/ologyqjlnol/07

Lisa Talking:
Timing is everything
Time, Space and Energy
When I first got in TLC
I was somewhere at the right time, with the right people

It’s like some of the things that we go through
It’s like dang, why we always gotta be the ones
Why does everything have to happen to us?
But at the same time
If we didn’t go through the bad times
The struggles, the hard work
We wouldn’t be as close as we are
We wouldn’t be as strong as we are
We wouldn’t be as wise as we are

I’m sitting here in front of this window
Wondering how this window pain
Takes all this pain
From beating down on me
Every chapter reminds me of me
I showered you with love, and still I got nothing
But you’re still my sunshine
Even on cloudy days I’m here
What’s it gonna take to make our forecast clear

Fell and see the rain
It’s falling
Storm makes my calling
The pain is gaining
I feel me fading
But I can’t leave you no
I don’t know how
We’ll be together
No mater the weather
It’s me and you

Tell me why these dark clouds
Are ruining our perfect skies
You promised that you would return
When the storm was done
Rain, sleet, hail, snow
You know I’m the one
The sun won’t shine
Tomorrow, Tomorrow

My heart echo’s pain
And the Sorrow, the Sorrow
Whole heartily
These drops startle me
But it was only my tears
So what’s it gonna take to make our forecast clear

Fell and see the rain
It’s falling
Storm makes my calling
The pain is gaining
I feel me fading
But I can’t leave you now
I don’t know how
We’ll be together
No mater the weather
It’s me and you

Don’t give up on me now
We’ve come to far to let it all just wash away
No rain will dry up soon
Promise we’ll be singing a different tune
We’ll make a classic again

Fell and see the rain
It’s falling
Storm makes my calling
The pain is gaining
I feel me fading
But I can’t leave you now
I don’t know how
We’ll be together
No mater the weather
It’s me and you

Natina Talking:
See so now you have it
See energy never dies
It just transforms
Like this
I love you Lisa
